HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE AND PETS IN YOUR COMMUNITY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
The economic downturn has left more families struggling financially.
Some pet guardians may feel the need to surrender or abandon their cat
or dog. In order to help these
families, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and Bollinger
Canyon Animal Hospital are partnering to collect pet food for Contra
Costa families in need. The goal is to collect 2,500 pounds of food
during the holiday season. The pet food collected will be given away at
local food banks along with the traditional foods.
Dr. Sandy Block of Bollinger Canyon Animal Hospital in San Ramon and a member of
the Board of Directors of ARF believes there are too many pets who are going
without sufficient nourishment during this economic downturn. Dr. Block said,
"Some pet caregivers are having to make difficult decisions and the bottom line
is they simply do not have enough funds available to feed their pets". "We're
asking others who are able to assist, to please do so", said Dr. Block.
Donations of cat and/or dog food, wet or dry that is unexpired and unopened can

BOLLINGER CANYON ANIMAL HOSPITAL OPENS IN SAN RAMON VALLEY
Sandra Block, DVM is pleased to announce the opening of Bollinger Canyon
Animal Hospital, a new pet-centered facility, conveniently located at
the Market Place, 400 Montgomery Street, San Ramon on February 6, 2008.
Doctor Sandy, as she is known to her furry clients, has served the animal
population in the Tri-Valley area since 1990 and is proud to make this
state-of-the-art, full-service center available. Focused on the pet as a
family member, Doctor Block celebrates the human-animal bond, promoting
preventative care and wellness. Her philosophy is to always do what’s
best for the pet, keeping open communication with caregivers and
providing the best pet care at the lowest possible prices.
Designed by a veterinary hospital architect, the new hospital’s interior
features soothing colors, warm

wood tones and touches of copper. With the comfort of pets and their
families in mind, Doctor Block watched over every construction detail.
Custom tiles of dogs and cats form a pleasing mosaic in the reception
area and decorate the walls of the exam rooms, where an exceptional
combination of technology and comfort creates a welcoming, stress-free
experience.
With technology elevating the level of medicine, computer screens in each
room give access to the animal’s health history. Digital X-ray equipment
means less radiation for technicians and animals and allows for more
precise views.
The treatment area of the hospital, with its modern technologies, provides
for every pet’s health and surgery needs. Special new flooring, now
being installed in human hospitals, is cushioned, easy to clean, odor
repellent and reduces noise levels. An in-house laboratory allows for
quicker test results, with the staff performing about 80% of testing on
the premises. Other dedicated areas include tubs for surgical
preparation, a dental care area, a surgery room and recovery bays. When
needed, an isolation room with separate vents and drains is available.
With animal comfort and recovery in mind, separate recovery wards were
built for dogs and cats. Roomy cages for dogs of all sizes and cat
quarters with all the amenities of home contribute to less stress and
thus faster healing for these pets.
Sandra Block earned her B.S. in Animal Science in 1984 and her Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine in 1988 from the University of Missouri-Columbia
School of Veterinary Medicine. She is a member of several professional
groups and a supporter of local animal welfare and rescue organizations.
Doctor Block is thrilled to be serving the community where she lives with
her husband, two sons, a yellow lab rescue and a rescue cat. She is
actively involved in Cub Scouts, Little League, soccer, PTA, St. Joan of
Arc parish and Valley Humane Society. She regularly speaks at local
schools about her career and pet care.
